Resources for Learning Facilitators
We are really thankful that you are generously giving of your time, wisdom, skills and learning to facilitate others in our Diocese in their learning. All the information and guidance you need to facilitate learners’ journey through a learning resource will be on the relevant page on this site. Do take plenty of time to familiarise yourself with the learning resource; with the student materials and the guidance for learning facilitators.
Flexibility
You might be wondering how closely you need to work through the learning resource as set out on Moodle as you deliver it. We do want our learning resources to do ‘what it says on the tin’; learners need to feel confident that they will achieve the learning outcomes. On the other hand, we want you as a facilitator to have the flexibility to respond to learning needs as you encounter them. This is the beauty of the blended learning approach briefly described below. The content is delivered directly to the student as they engage with it in their own time and at their own pace. The ‘classroom’ time can then be set aside specifically to responding to leaners’ questions, exploring how good a grasp they have of the new concepts and practices they are encountering, and helping them to contextualise their learning (being able to articulate how it might change their own approach and practice where they are.
Blended Learning and the ‘Flipped’ Classroom
The general principle for delivering our learning resources is ‘blended learning’ and what is known as the ‘flipped classroom’. That means that the learning content is online for students to study at their own pace and at the time that suits them best, with classroom time set aside for students to share, consolidate and apply their learning. Watch the video below for more guidance on the blended learning approach.
Meeting with Learning Mentors
We encourage you to meet with the students’ learning mentors at the start of their learning journey so you can take them through the structure of the learning resource. It also gives you a chance to highlight any particularly challenging moments there might be for students and suggest some ways that they can support the students through them. It would also be helpful to meet with them after the learning journey has ended so that you can gather up feedback.
Learning Facilitators’ Resource
We are in the process of developing a learning resource for facilitators to help you understand the approach and how to run with it. Visit this page again to see when the course is launched.
