Ongoing Learning and Development for Ministers
Thank you for your service of God’s people in encouraging and equipping them for the mission and ministry which belongs to the whole Church. The challenges and opportunities we face together are as complex as they are intriguing. We are here to support and resource you with learning opportunities to help you become even more effective in your ministry now and in the future, so that God’s people can be even better enabled to join in with God at work and play in their neighbourhoods and the wider world.
Learning Resources for Growth
Our Learning Resources for Growth are open-access and available to all. They are at an entry-level on the subjects they cover, but they are an effective way into deeper study of particular subjects or in developing a particular skill. These are especially recommended for Authorised Lay Ministers who might want to explore developing an additional specialism before embarking on a more in-depth ALM Learning Programme.
Curates and Newly-Licensed Lay Ministers
Our Initial Ministerial Education Phase 2 (IME2) programme is available to all Assistant Curates in Training, whether self-supporting or in receipt of a stipend and whether part-time or full-time. It is also available to those who are in the first three years of their ministry as a Licensed Lay Minister (LLM). You can find details of that programme by clicking the link below.
Continuing Ministerial Development
Once your initial training is complete, there is ongoing training available through our Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD) programme. At your Ministerial Development Review (MDR), with the accompaniment of your reviewer, you will identify what priorities for personal and ministerial development you want to focus on in the year following the review. You can access the training you need from any training provider you think is best placed to support you, but we are also using data from MDRs to develop our own in-house courses that will be free at the point of delivery. If you have ideas now about what you think might be most helpful to you, email us at learning@elydiocese.org.
Specialist Leadership Programmes and Skills Courses
We recognise that there are some distinct forms of ministry we need to strengthen in our Diocese as we head deeper into the Twenty-first Century. We are in the process of developing a suite of specialist leadership programmes and skills courses to deliver on these priorities. This includes a Church Leadership Programme for people in their first incumbency, or more established incumbents wanting to refresh their leadership. We are developing a programme for Oversight Ministry for those who are or will be overseeing ministry teams in multi-parish benefices. There are training programmes for Training Incumbents and Collaborative Ministry in development too.
We are also keen to increase our capacity as a Diocese to offer supervision and accompaniment to people in ministry. Our Specialist Leadership Skills courses in coaching, mentoring, line management and supervision will enable lay and ordained ministers to offer this support to colleagues locally and elsewhere. We are also developing similar skills courses for working with groups of people in facilitation, group and team coaching and mission accompaniment.
Safeguarding
You can also access the Safeguarding training you will need to complete through this site.
